Blue brings me peace, green gives me joy!
In my current practice, I am lightening the scene. Having dived in deeply, I was using the watercolours like an impasto, capturing the movement and weight of water. These days I want to see the glint of light through the paint, and this is where my work will progress next. I’m also refining my sculptural practice to represent the tide and future presence of water in our beachside suburbs.
Why am I a member of Creatives Inc?
GC Creative Events is a fabulous community organisation with a vision to encourage Gold Coasters in their artistic pursuits. Since the hugely successful Aqua Limina exhibition, across three locations in April 2026, I have joined the Committee and I’m really looking forward to making a contribution to future events and collaborations.
Karleen has a real talent for drawing the art out of people. To prepare for Aqua Limina, I finally dived in and painted the sparkly seascapes I have been dreaming of for the past few years. I’m capturing the feeling of being in the ocean, with waves looming and breaking, hoping for a ride to the shore. For me, bodysurfing is bliss, it keeps me sane and healthy. Painting these images makes me feel a connection to the ocean, from the back of Tally Valley to Tugun beach in my mind and in my soul.
